Sodalite vs Lapis Lazuli: Which is Better? 7 Differences!

Both sodalite and lapis lazuli are blue in color and can look very similar, which often leads people to confuse the two.

There are other similarities, too – they’re both great crystals to use for mental recovery and enhancement and for boosting self-esteem and confidence.

Lapis lazuli can also be made up of sodalite alongside other minerals, such as pyrite and calcite.

But, let’s now understand the 7 differences between sodalite and lapis lazuli. Then, you can decide which one to get or, even better, if you want to get both!

About Sodalite

You’ll sometimes hear about this mineral called ‘Canadian lapis‘ because of its blue color, but if you shine an ultraviolet light on your sodalite healing crystal, it’ll shine a bright orange shade.

Found in a few places around the world, such as China, India, and Brazil, it usually looks similar to lapis lazuli.

Other colors are sometimes seen, such as pink and red shades, green, gray, white, or pale yellow.

About Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli

Sometimes just called lapis, lapis lazuli has been used by humans for years, not just for its healing properties but also for its color.

Used in art from ancient times right up to modern day, lazurite is what gives this healing rock its bright, bold color.

The white flecks you can often see are calcite, and the golden flecks you see are pyrite, commonly known as ‘fool’s gold‘.

What Are the Main Differences Between Sodalite and Lapis Lazuli?

What Are the Main Differences Between Sodalite and Lapis Lazuli?

These two healing crystals are similar in several ways. As a healing crystal, both sodalite and lapis lazuli are linked to improving your life.

Moving away from those, however, you’ll find that they’re two very different crystals, with significant differences, especially from a healing or manifestation perspective.

1) Rock vs Mineral

Lapis lazuli is a metamorphic rock. Sodalite, on the other hand, is a mineral from the same group as lazurite, which also makes up lapis lazuli. (It’s a little confusing, right?

They are formed in different ways and have different properties.

Essentially, these two crystals are nowhere the same, or even similar. They are quite far apart. From a physical perspective, sodalite and lapis lazuli are very different.

2) Sodalite is for Balance and Focus

Most crystal users would agree that sodalite is a good one to use for mental balance and focus. Lapis lazuli, on the other hand, is used for clarity and intuition.

Although similar, they can have rather different outcomes when used for their metaphysical powers.

Sodalite helps to calm the mind, especially when it’s worn as a necklace (close to the Throat chakra), or pressed/placed on the forehead, allowing it to get close to the Third-Eye chakra.

If you have a pair of sodalite earrings, you can wear them as brooches, close to your neck or head, or even on a hat.

3) Personal vs Spiritual Growth

If you’re looking for spiritual growth, lapis lazuli is the crystal you should turn to.

For personal growth, however, you’ll want to use sodalite.

Both crystals are believed to enhance psychic powers and spirituality, but one has a stronger energy for it than the other — lapis lazuli.

Putting your lapis lazuli crystal in your bedroom, preferably close to your head, will allow you to absorb its positive energies.

Some people like to put the crystal underneath their pillows, close to the Throat and Third Eye chakras that will help to strengthen their intentions and power.

4) Use Sodalite for Meditation and Manifestation

Most crystals work for manifestation and meditation, but some have more powerful energies than others.

Sodalite is thought to be slightly stronger than lapis lazuli for the two uses.

With connections to intuition, balance, and focus, it’ll help you to meditate, and then to get what you want via meditation

Meditation is very often overlooked when it comes to changing your life for the better. Manifestation is important, too – but meditation is where it all starts.

Calming your mind and allowing yourself to focus on figuring out what you want, plus the best steps to get there, is a great way to get ahead in life.

It doesn’t cost anything, it takes just a short amount of your time, and it could yield huge results.

5) Lapis Lazuli is Great for Confidence

If you want to feel as though you can conquer the world and get things done, lapis lazuli is your friend

When worn as jewelry, it helps to boost self-esteem and confidence.

It’s commonly used as a talisman of protection, and it also helps to release anxiety, stress, and nerves – which brings an increase in confidence

Alongside these healing properties, lapis lazuli is also good for improving communication and increasing clarity of thought.

The latter is also an associated property of sodalite, but it doesn’t have the communication factor attached.

6) Self Truth vs Self-Confidence

Sodalite and lapis lazuli might both be associated with the element of Air, but sodalite is the one to call upon when you need to better understand yourself in order to grow and evolve.

Lapis offers similar mental clarity with self-awareness, but without the same level of understanding.

  • If you have a big public speech coming up, lapis lazuli would be the better crystal;
  • If you need to look inside yourself and solve a repetitive life problem, on the other hand, sodalite works best.

Before picking a crystal to work with, whether it’s sodalite, lapis lazuli, or any other, first work out exactly what it is you want to achieve, and how you want to do it.

Do you want spiritual or personal growth? Are you more interested in learning about yourself (self-truth)? Or are you desperately seeking for a confidence boost whether you know yourself more or not?

7) Lapis Lazuli Helps for Dream Analysis

Do you keep getting little signs that you don’t know how to interpret?

Maybe your dreams are vivid and memorable, but you can’t get to the bottom of them?

Lapis lazuli is a really great tool for tapping into your spiritual and psychic side, whether you believe it’s there or not!

As previously mentioned, sodalite is a tool for personal growth. But lapis lazuli is the right crystal to use for spiritual growth.

To better understand your dreams and other signs, it’s your spiritual side that’s important.

What Crystal Should I Use?

Lapis Lazuli

You should use the right crystal for you, the job you want it to do, and the outcomes you’re hoping for. It all really boils down to one question

Is your problem/situation a personal or spiritual one?

  • If it’s a personal one: such as achieving goals you’ve set for yourself, sodalite is (one o)] the right crystals to use.
  • A spiritual problem or situation: on the other hand, will require the spiritually linked lapis lazuli. This includes things like analyzing dreams, discovering previous lives, and receiving spiritual guidance.

You may even find that neither of these crystals work best for your cause, or that they’ll work better together, and/or in conjunction with other crystals/spiritual practices.

Yes, you can use sodalite and lapis lazuli crystals together

Using them at the same time could combine the powers and bring both spiritual and personal growth.

As well as improved clarity of thought and a courage boost, these two healing crystals can help you get through fearful or anxious times, or at times when you need to make difficult or complicated decisions.

You could put sodalite under your pillow to allow the soothing and clarifying properties to work their magic.

At the same time, you could wear a lapis lazuli piece of jewelry throughout the day.

Alternatively, you could use them both in meditation and manifestation, holding them or resting them in front of you. You can also use them in formations, such as crystal circles and squares.

What Other Crystals Work with Lapis Lazuli and Sodalite?

As well as using these two crystals combined, you can pair them with others, individually and together.

If you are a beginner to the world of crystal healing, it’s best to get to grips with one crystal at a time before getting inventive and pairing two (or more) together.

Using the wrong combination of crystals could eliminate your hard work, with an energizing crystal canceling out the energy of a more calming one.

Final words

Sodalite and lapis lazuli are both healing crystals.

They do have some similar healing properties, it’s now up to you to decide if you only want to use one or both. As combining these two crystals is an excellent idea!
